Peyronies disease
demystified
Peyronies disease is an abnormal penile curvature that is caused due to growth of fibrous plaques in the soft
tissue that surrounds the penis.
Although certain degree of penile curvature is considered to be normal in men, in peyronies disease the
curvature is quite a lot and it might result into pain during sex or affected men would not be able to have sex at
all.
Corpora spongiosum is the tissue that surrounds the penis and corpora cavernosa enlargement is what causes
erection in men. This erectile tissue is basically where a majority of the blood is stored. When the blood is drawn
in to this tissue, corpora cavernosa enlargement would cause erection.
Injury to corpora spongiosum may cause the peyronies disease which might result into either an upward or a
downward bend in the penis.
Causes: Although the main causes of peyronies disease are still not known there are still a few reasons that are
though to cause this disease in men.
Peyronies disease can be caused due to an injury or trauma to the erectile tissue during vigorous sex, certain
medical procedures or surgeries. It is also thought that peyronies disease is caused due to a genetic disorder.
Vitamin E deficiency and diabetes can also be a reason for peyronies disease. Treatment: There are limited
treatment methods available for the treatment of peyronies disease. Corpora cavernosa exercises can be tried, these
exercises basically stretch and strengthen corpora spongiosum and make it flexible.
If peyronies disease is caused due to a problem is corpora spongiosum then the copropra cavernosa exercises
would help resolve it. Apart from these exercises surgical options are available.
These are known to be the most effective methods for treatment of peyronies disease. These surgeries removed the
hard and deformed tissue which corrects the penile curvature of the penis up to some extent. Vitamin E and B
dose is also recommended to most patients.
In some cases steroids and radiation of low level is recommended by doctors to decrease pain during sex. Apart
from the treatment methods listed above there are a few therapy methods that can be used for treatment of peyronies
disease.
Vacuum pumps that are most commonly used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction are also being largely
recommended for correction the curvature of the penis.
These pumps work by creating vacuum in the cylinder which draws in blood to the penis creating a full grown erection. A rubber constriction is then to be placed at the bottom of
the penis to stop the blood from flowing back, making the erection last longer.
Vacuum pumps are believed to correct the curvature of the penis along with getting and erection and are being
recommended by doctors to more and more patients suffering from peyronies disease as a treatment method.
